Most expensive footballers by cost
When you look at some of the world’s most expensive soccer players it’s obvious that some managers don’t have a clue how to do their jobs as they spent millions of pounds of their owners’ money on players who don’t even dress for games. It’s funny how most of them are strikers and many reams only use one or two of them on the pitch at a time these days.
Let’s look at the players who have earned the most ever in transfer fees.
Cristiano Ronaldo – Real Madrid-Total transfer fees: £92.24m
Here’s a guy who’s actually worth the money spent on him because of the number of times he fills the net for his club teams. He’s now known as the most expensive player ever in football history. This came in the way of being bought from sporting Lisbon by Manchester united and then being sold by the English club to Real Madrid in the Spanish La Liga.
Nicolas Anelka – Chelsea –Total transfer fees: £86.5m
Nicolas Anelka is actually the second most expensive player ever as he’s been bought and sold a few times over his inconsistent career. The striker made headlines in 2010 when he was booted off the French World cup team.
Robbie Keane – Tottenham-Total transfer fees: £70.3m
Keane has been sold a few times. Tottenham bought the striker from Leeds originally then sold him to Liverpool and bought him back. He doesn’t even dress now. He’s a good scorer though with 122 EPL goals.
Hernan Crespo -Parma Total transfer fees: £68.77m
Crespo is a former Argentine international striker who made a name for himself in England when he was bought by Chelsea. He’s a little long in the tooth now, but has managed to score more than 300 goals during a 17-year soccer career. He was once sold for a world record £35.4 million when Lazio bought him from Parma in 2000.
Darren Bent- Aston Villa-Total transfer fees: £56m
Bent was just sold by Sunderland to Aston Villa for about £24 million. The England international striker also played for Ipswich, Charlton, and Tottenham.
Craig Bellamy –Manchester City-Total transfer fees: £45m
Bellamy was bought by Manchester City for £14 million and they think so little of him that he’s been shipped out to Championship League club Cardiff City for the season. However, Bellamy’s good enough to play for his native Wales’ national team.
Dimitar Berbatov – Manchester United-Total transfer fees: £41.65m
Berbatov is the leading scorer in the EPL this season and the striker was bought by United for £30.75 million pounds from Tottenham back in 2008.
Peter Crouch – Tottenham-Total transfer fees: £33.65m
The English international striker has played for about eight different teams now. He still plays for Spurs and England and is a pretty prolific scorer.
Emmanuel Adebayor – Manchester City-Total transfer fees: £32m
Another waste of millions of pounds by Man City as striker Adebayor doesn’t even dress for the team after he was bought from in for £25million. City were so inept they signed him to a five-year deal.
Jermain Defoe – Tottenham-Total transfer fees: £30.65m
Yet another Spurs striker. The English international still plays for club and country and has also played for West Ham and Portsmouth.
