Chicago White Sox (76-60) @ Detroit Tigers (68-69)

Date: Tuesday September 7th, 2010

Time: 7:05 pm EST

Preview: Winners of six straight games; the Chicago White Sox will head to Detroit, for the second game of a four game series in Michigan. The White Sox come into Monday’s action in second place in the American League Central; 3.5 games behind the Minnesota Twins.

The White Sox are batting .271 as a team, which ranks fifth in major league baseball, and also 155 homeruns, which is 7th. Paul Konerko has been red hot for Chicago, batting .318, while blasting 33 homeruns and 98 runs batted in. The White Sox will send Freddie Garcia to the mound. Garcia is 34 years old and has 134 career wins as a starting pitcher. Garcia in 2010, is 11-5 with a 4.82 earned run average. Garcia’s last start was poor, as he went just four innings, allowing four hits and a run in a game against Cleveland. The Tigers will send their ace; Justin Verlander to the mound in this one. Verlander is 27 years old, and already holds 79 career wins as a starting pitcher. Verlander has picked up no decisions in his last two starts in Toronto and Minnesota. This season, he holds a 14-8 record, and a 3.61 earned run average.

Detroit will make an effort to get back to .500, as their season fell apart in the second half. Detroit is 12 games behind Minnesota in the American League Central. Miguel Cabrera has had an excellent season for the Tigers, batting .335, with 33 homeruns and 110 runs batted in.
