Champions League: Chelsea v FC Copenhagen Odds and Predictions
European Champions League preview Chelsea v FC Copenhagen
Chelsea heads home to Stamford Bridge on March 16th with a 2-0 lead over FC Copenhagen from their first leg of their Champions League round-of-16 tie. Everything went Chelsea’s way in the opening leg and it would take a total team collapse for them to blow their two goal lead, especially being away goals.
We bet on the game at WilliamHill.com as they offer very competitive odds and a huge selection.
Nicolas Anelka and Fernando Torres played pretty well together in the first game, but Didier Drogba’s getting impatient sitting on the bench. Torres has been a bust since signing from Liverpool and it will be interesting to see who manager Carlo Ancelotti starts up front in this match.
The win in Denmark was the catalyst for a string of fine games for the English Premier League club and Chelsea’s hope of earning a spot for next year’s Champions League tournament are now looking pretty good. However, retaining the EPL crown might be realistically out of the question, but it’s still possible.
The Champions League is still the most realistic chance of earning a trophy this season though and it’s something that Russian owner Roman Abramovich really craves. FC Copenhagen is the best team in Denmark by miles this season, as they are a whole 19 points ahead of the second place club Odense BK. It seems they’ll be playing this match against Chelsea just for pride tough.
They have done well in the tournament this year as they advanced from their group with Panathinaikos, Rubin Kazan, and Barcelona. But they only hope they have in this match is if Chelsea underestimates them and don’t put in a good effort. Copenhagen would have to score the first goal of the game to have a chance though.
Chelsea has won their last three games while FC Copenhagen has won one and lost two in their last three outings.
Chelsea will likely be without Alex, Yuri Zhirkov, and Yossi Benayoun, while Copenhagen should have all of their players available.
Predictions for Chelsea vs Copenhagen
Copenhagen will be hoping their Costa Rican winger Christian Bolanos has a good game and can create some offensive chances. Even if he does, I don’t think Chelsea will blow this lead though and look for them to win the game by a couple of goals. The most likely result could be Chelsea with a 3-1 win.
Online bookmaker William Hill has the odds of a Chelsea win at 1/3 and the odds of a Copenhagen win at 8/1. The odds of a draw are 3/1 and the odds of a 3-1 Chelsea win are 10/1.
